Israeli warplanes shelled sites of the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias in the vicinity of the Syrian capital Damascus.

Activists reported that on Friday night, Israeli warplanes targeted sites of the Syrian government forces and Iranian militias at Damascus International Airport, destroying three Iranian military cargo planes.

The Syrian government media said that the latter’s air defenses defeated most of the rockets fired by Israeli warplanes on the vicinity of Damascus. The shelling hit a warehouse at the International Airport.

There was no official comment or statement from the Israeli Army on the incident or the sites targeted.

On Dec. 26, 2018, Israel shelled military sites near Damascus, killing a Syrian government forces officer and injuring three members.

On Dec. 23, 2018, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel would continue its operations against Iran's attempts to establish military bases in Syria, despite the US withdrawal.

Israel has repeatedly targeted Syrian government forces sites and others for Iranian-backed militias, as Israel said. Israel vowed to prevent Tehran from establishing bases in Syria.
