Deir al-Zor - SMART

On Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced killing 15 Islamic State (IS) members in the city of al-Sha'fah, 112 kilometers southeast of Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

The SDF advanced one kilometer into al-Sha'fah and established 17 military bases in the city and its perimeter. The SDF also seized weapons, ammunition, and disarmed two car bombs, a landmine, a mortar, and destroyed three landmine warehouses, according to an SDF statement.

The SDF added that International Coalition warplanes supported the SDF attacks and performed 20 airstrikes on IS-controlled areas.

Days ago, the SDF gained control of the village of al-Keshmah and parts of the city of al-Sha'fah in Deir al-Zor after clashes with the IS. The clashes killed and injured members on both sides.

The SDF is trying to expel the IS from its last stronghold in Deir al-Zor and gained control of the city of Hajin and most parts of the village of al-Baghouz al-Tahtani. The SDF now controls the Syrian border with Iraq.
