Turkey - SMART

The Israeli Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot announced that Israel launched thousands of attacks on Iranian militias and locations in Syria, without claiming responsibility for the attacks.

In an interview with the New York Times Eisenkot said that since November 2017, Israel has carried out thousands of attacks against Iranian targets in Syria without claiming responsibility for them, adding that the attacks are part of a campaign against military convoys and the locations of the Hezbollah militia since 2011. The series of attacks did not directly target Iranian assets.

Eisenkot added that the Iranian vision was to have significant influence in Syria by building a force of up to 100,000 Shi'ite fighters from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, in addition to building intelligence and air force bases within each Syrian base, according to the al-Hurra channel.

Eisenkot explained that Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the al-Quds Force, made a strategic mistake by choosing Syria as a base for operations against Israel. Eisenkot added that Israel has complete intelligence and aerial superiority in this area.

Eisenkot said that Iran is now transferring their forces and equipment to Iraq as a result of the Israeli military operations against Iran in the past two years.

Israel has targeted Syrian government and Iranian militia locations in Syria to prevent Tehran from establishing bases inside Syria.
