On Wednesday, Iran announced that it will retain its military advisors, weapons and equipment in Syria.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) quoted the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Mohammad Ali Jafari as saying, "The Israeli threats to bomb Iranian positions in Syria are ridiculous and laughable."

Jafari added that that Iran does not have military units in Syria.

On Tuesday, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded Iran to leave Syria immediately, saying that Israel is ready for a full-scale war if necessary.

On December 20, 2018, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel would escalate its fight against the Iranian forces in Syria after the withdrawal of United States forces from the country.
