Aleppo - SMART

On Wednesday, the police and public security forces detained a restaurant owner in the city of Azaz near Aleppo, Northern Syria, for broadcasting a football match of the Syrian national team on television.

The head of the counterterrorism department of the police and public security, Major Hassan Abu Omar, reported that they closed the al-Qama Restaurant and detained its owner because he broadcasted the match of the Syrian team against its Australian counterpart in the UAE on Tuesday night. No further details were reported.

Activists called the Syrian team “the barrels team,” recalling that the Syrian government forces killed thousands of civilians, arrested hundreds of thousands and displaced others.
