Idlib - SMART

The Free Idlib Health Directorate, Northern Syria, said the decision of some donor organizations to suspend support for health projects and free health directorates threatens about 80 thousand beneficiaries of medical services in the governorate.

On Thursday, the assistant director of the directorate, Dr. Mustafa al-Aido, reported that the decision affected 33 medical facilities, including hospitals, specialized health centers and ambulances supported by the Health Directorate. These facilities provide services to about 80 thousand beneficiaries monthly.

Al-Aido stated that the number of health workers included in the decision was 162 employees in the Health Directorate and 472 employees in the other medical facilities.

Al-Aido added that the most critical health centers that will be negatively affected by the suspension of support are the Tuberculosis Center and the only Axial Tomography and Forensic Centers in the governorate. The suspension of aid will also affect the central ambulance system, which includes 50 ambulances, and the Drug Control Center, which supervises the analysis of medicines.

Al-Aido also said that they announced the start of volunteer work since the date of the decision, in addition to their intention to organize an internal and external campaign with the participation of local and international organizations to restore support to the health department.

On Tuesday, the German Technical Cooperation Agency suspended its support of medical projects and the Free Health Directorates in Aleppo, Hama, and Idlib until further notice.

The German agency suspends its support after days of clashes between the HTS and Free Syrian Army in the Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama governorates. The clashes caused civil institutions, schools, universities, and police departments to shut down
