A Syrian refugee girl died after drowning in the course of a river caused by the blizzard in the town of al-Baysarieh in the governorate of Sidon, Southern Lebanon.

On Thursday, the Lebanese media agency said that the eight-year-old girl drowned in the river, where the floods swept her towards the sea. The media added that the search is underway for her brother, who was trying to rescue her from drowning.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese government declared a state of emergency to ease the suffering of Syrian refugees living in camps during the blizzard that is expected to intensify in the coming hours.

A depression accompanied by snow falls in the highlands hit several areas in Syria and Lebanon, where camps’ residents suffer from poor conditions and lack of services, amidst appeals to humanitarian organizations to ease their suffering.
