Idlib - SMART

On Sunday, the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) detained three people in the city of Sarmin, 8 kilometers east of Idlib, Northern Syria, accusing them of blowing up an HTS headquarter last Friday.

The HTS is an Islamist opposition faction previously known as the al-Nusra Front, consisting of fighting groups including the Haqq Brigade, Jabhat Ansar al-Din, and Jaysh al-Sunnah.

HTS media channels reported that members of the HTS security services stormed one of the Islamic State headquarters in Sarmin and detained three members from the headquarter.

The HTS media added that the booby-trapped car that exploded near an HTS checkpoint on Friday came from the stormed headquarter.

The explosion that targeted the al-Mutlaq checkpoint near Idlib's southern entrance killed 12 HTS members and injured nine others, according to a military source from the HTS.

Assassinations and explosions are common in the areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army and Islamist battalions in the governorates of Idlib and Aleppo, targeting military commanders and fighters, in addition to killing and injuring several civilians.
