The Chemical Violations Documentation Center in Syria (CVDCS) launches a campaign to demand the prosecution of the Syrian government and its president, Bashar al-Assad, for using chemical weapons against civilians in Syria.

In a statement obtained by SMART on Tuesday, the CVDCS said that it will publish photos of victims of chemical attacks in Syria over the duration of eight days to raise awareness about victims' rights and to remind the international community of the Syrian government's violations of the Chemical Weapons Conventions.

The statement said that chemical weapons were used 261 times in Syria, killing 3,423 people and injuring 13,943 others, most of them women and children, in six years. Twelve international detection teams participated in the investigations regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

In the statement, which was published on Monday evening, the CVDCS called on all civil society organizations and associations to participate in and support the campaign to prosecute those responsible for the chemical attacks.

The CVDCS is a non-profit organization based in the Belgian capital Brussels and was established in 2012. The CVDCS was named a non-profit syndicate according to the laws of Belgium in 2015, and documents all incidents and evidence of the use of chemical weapons.

The Syrian government forces used toxic gases during bombings on several locations in the Idlib governorate, Northern Syria, the Hama and Homs governorates, Central Syria, and the Eastern Ghouta area near Damascus. The international community condemned the attacks, while humanitarian and judicial organizations called for putting an end to the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
