Damascus - SMART

On Tuesday night, seven children died after a fire broke out in their home in the al-Amara neighborhood in Damascus, Syria.

The Syrian government media quoted a police source as saying that the children are between three and 13 years old from the al-Arnous family. The children’s bodies were transferred to the al-Mujtahid Hospital.

The exact causes of the fire have not been known yet, but a Civil Defense source suspected an electric heater could cause the fire.

Several fires broke out in Damascus, most of them in the Old City. The Syrian government forces say that the fires are caused by electricity or misuse of heaters. Activists accuse pro-Iranian militias of setting fires to force residents to sell their houses and shops.
