Al-Raqqa - SMART

The number of men detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al-Mansoura and its surroundings, 28 kilometers west of al-Raqqa, Northeastern Syria, increased to 38 in two days on the background of burning the SDF headquarters and three vehicles after it killed a man during an attempt to arrest him.

Local sources reported that on Friday, the SDF members arrested about ten men from the town of al-Mansoura, and six others from the nearby village of Hnida, on charges of participating in riots. Meanwhile, the Asayish forces have been imposing a curfew for the third day in a row.

The sources added that the SDF established additional checkpoints in the region, where the tension declined, and the people returned to move in it.

Security tension rose in the town of al-Mansoura after the Asayish forces killed a man from the al-Bukhmis clan while trying to arrest him to enlist him in SDF ranks. The tension increased during the funeral of the man. The tribal dignitaries demanded the Asayish forces give them the killer to hold him accountable.

After the funeral, the SDF arrested eight men from the town after the people set the Asayish headquarters on fire and burned three SDF vehicles parked near the headquarters. On Thursday night, the SDF arrested others for reaching 38 men.

Al-Mansoura is considered necessary due to its geographic location being the last SDF-controlled town in southern al-Raqqa, bordering areas controlled by the Syrian government forces and their allied militias.

Tensions rose between the SDF and the tribes of al-Raqqa. Some considered dealing with the SDF treachery. Earlier, the al-Halisat tribe called on the International Coalition to release the detainees in SDF prisons. Also, a delegation of tribal dignitaries demanded the al-Raqqa local council to stop compulsory recruitment.
