Islamic State assassinates village mayor in Deir al-Zor

On Sunday, the Islamic State (IS) assassinated Ibrahim al-Mislat, the mayor of the village of al-Jurthi in the Nahiyat Zeiban, eastern Deir al-Zor, Eastern Syria.

One of al-Mislat's relatives reported that two unknown shooters on a motorcycle stormed al-Mislat's office in al-Jurthi, which is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The source added that al-Mislat received eight shots in the head and chest, killing him instantly.

The IS claimed responsibility for the assassination in a statement on social media, saying that al-Mislat was a spy for the Kurdish People's Protection Units of the SDF.

On January 26, 2019, a suicide bomber killed and injured SDF fighters on the perimeter of the town of al-Susah in Deir al-Zor.
