National Army fighters torture doctor in Afrin

On Sunday, fighters of the National Army kidnapped and tortured a doctor in the city of Afrin in northern Aleppo, Northern Syria.

Dr. Adnan Abu Nadim said in a video, which activists posted on social media, that a group from the al-Majd Legion of the National Army kidnapped him from his clinic in Afrin in coordination with a member of the al-Sham Legion called Abu al-Izz. Dr. Adnan added that the fighters tortured him before they released him.

Sa’d Tayiba, a commander in the al-Majd Legion, said that Ahmad Izz al-Din, also known as Abu al-Izz, ordered al-Majd Legion and al-Sham Legion fighters to kidnap Dr. Adnan. Tayiba noted that Dr. Adnan is accused of being a member of Kurdish Democratic Union Party, adding that is case has been transferred to a judiciary.

Seif Ra'd, the al-Sham Legion communications manager, denied the legion's involvement in the kidnapping of Dr. Adnan, adding that they detained Abu al-Izz. Ra'd noted that they are ready to work with the investigation committee and hand over the perpetrators,

Activists have accused the National Army of kidnappings, killings, and robberies since it gained control of the Afrin area in March 2018. National Army fighters commit violations against residents, medical staff, humanitarian organizations and activists.
