Daraa - SMART

On Monday, a landmine left behind by the Syrian government forces exploded in the town of Mahajjah, 45 kilometers north of Daraa, Southern Syria, killing a civilian and injuring two others.

Local sources told SMART that the landmine exploded while the three civilians were plowing their land near the town, without mentioning which hospital the civilians were transported to.

In a statement obtained by SMART, the head of the Daraa Documentation Center said that the explosion followed earlier landmine and cluster bomb explosions that killed five civilians, including two children.

In August 2018, the Syrian government forces seized total control of the Daraa governorate after concluding reconciliation agreements with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Islamist battalions. Hundreds of FSA fighters and civilians were killed earlier during the clashes in the governorate, and by mines and explosive devices left behind after the clashes.
