Aleppo - SMART

On Wednesday, forcibly displaced teachers in camps near the city of Idlib in Northern Syria organized a demonstration in the city of al-Atareb in Aleppo, in protest against non-payment of their financial dues and the absence of a party to organize their work in schools belonging to the Interim Syrian Government.

The teacher, Mahmoud al-Mahmoud told SMART that 84 teachers are currently working in schools in the camps north of Idlib without payment of their financial dues five months ago, after the inclusion of the schools affiliated with the Free Aleppo Education Directorate located in Idlib Governorate to the Free Idlib Education Directorate after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between them.

Al-Mahmoud demanded the return of these schools work under the supervision of the Aleppo Education because the teachers and the students there are all displaced from Aleppo. He added that the teachers would stop working if their financial dues are not paid, which threatens to deprive 1500 students of education.

The teacher, Mohammed Fa’aour said that the memorandum of understanding signed between the Education Directorates of Aleppo and Idlib required the transfer of the economic bloc and the supervision to the Idlib Education Directorate. We discussed with the two Directorates, but each one of them blamed the other.

Sixty teachers demonstrated in front of the Free Aleppo Education Directorate and raised banners written on some of them, "we want to be affiliated to the Aleppo Education Directorate,” “86 schools demand their rights” and “we want our complex.”

A number of teachers work voluntarily in the schools affiliated with the Education Directorates, in Northern Syria, which is mostly supported by the interim government, while others work with financial salaries, which are cut off for several months depending on the support provided to them.
