Al-Hasakah - SMART

On Thursday, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration in Northeastern Syria said that they are not communicating with France about the French Islamic State (IS) detainees in its prisons.

The joint head of the Autonomous Administration's Foreign Relations Office reported that the number of IS detainees in its prisons cannot be disclosed to the media before coordinating with the detainees' home countries.

The French government announced the possibility of allowing French jihadists detained in Syria to return to France after the United States' decision to withdraw its forces from Syria.

On Jan. 21, 2019, the Deputy Head of the Autonomous Administration's Foreign Relations Office Fener Kait Karaba said that 2,000 people from 46 nationalities are waiting to be repatriated, calling on all countries to do their legal duty to speed up the reception of their citizens.

Earlier, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Autonomous Administration handed over dozens of detained Kazakh citizens and IS families to their governments, including Russia and Chechnya.
