Idlib- SMART

On Thursday, unknown masked assailants kidnapped a former fighter of the Ahrar al-Sham Islamist Movement of the National Liberation Front in the city of Kafr Nubl in southern Idlib, Northern Syria.

The Ahrar al-Sham Islamist Movement is a part of the National Liberation Front (NLF), which is an opposition group formed by the two Sunni Islamist groups Ahrar al-Sham and the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement. The NLF is the main rival of the HTS in Northwestern Syria.

Activists reported that the masked assailants stormed the house of the former fighter Maher 'Abedo and transported him to an unknown destination. The activists reported no further details.

The activists added that 'Abedo was one of the first people to participate in the Syrian Revolution against the Syrian government and is known for hostility against the Islamist faction Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Days ago, unknown masked assailants kidnapped a nurse from Kafr Nubl. The HTS was accused of kidnapping the nurse because it is the only military faction in the city, according to the activists.

Kidnappings of humanitarian and medical staff are common in areas outside of the Syrian government forces' control in Northern Syria.
